Back on the gay scene in BsAs
Last night I arranged to see some friends in Sitges (Cordoba 4119) but at no particular time. I had forgotten how late the night starts here in Buenos Aires; when I arrived at 11:45 pm there were only about 20 people in there and a lot of empty seats. About midnight people started to arrive (including my friends), then the trickle became a flood and at 1:00 am when I left the place was packed and there was a queue to enter.
From there I took a taxi to the junction of Av. Santa Fe and Av. Puerreydon to pick up some flyers and see if there was anything interesting happening. Unfortunately by this time the weather really wasn't fit for a dog, there was a steady rain and the temperature was about 6 degC. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the guys handing out flyers and the few hardy (or desperate) taxi boys lurking in doorways looking for customers.
I headed down to Contramano (Rodriguez Peña 1082) to see what changes had been made since it re-opened as a cafe-bar. I never liked Contramano when it was disco because it became extremely crowded and the concentration of cigarette smoke made it intolerable for me. Now the floor space has been reduced to about one third of former days and the smoke problem is reduced. There were about 100 guys in there nearly all aged over 35 and nearly all on their own, standing around sipping their drinks and eyeing up the other guys. Depending on your point of view the place is either exhilarating or deadly dull. I had one beer and left.
