New gay disco in BsAs
Suddenly there are a number of new gay venues opening in the city and last night I checked out The Titanic Club Disco-Bar at Hacker (Av. Santa Fe 2516). Titanic Club is a long-established gay bar at Callao 1156 and now they have taken over Hacker which used to be a popular straight disco. The new gay disco is open Friday & Saturday from midnight (free entry until 1 am, $15 after - includes one drink) and Sunday from 9 pm (entry $10 - includes one drink). The place is licensed for 250 customers and measures approximately 30m by 20m. Lighting and decor are minimal and the music sounds good without shaking the foundations. It has all the ambience of a gay disco and I feel it could be successful if only because it is at the nominal centre of gay life in the city being only steps from the junction of Av. Santa Fe and Av. Puerreydón. I suspect that some of the crowd that used to inhabit Contramano may migrate to here. Last night was fairly quiet but it needs a re-visit in a few weeks.
Earlier in the evening I called in at Flux bar (Marcelo T de Alvear 980) and was pleased to hear from Jamie and Ilya that business is picking up again since the re-opening. After spending an hour or so at Hacker I walked round to Water Club (Uriburu 1018) to check on the rumour that the place had closed; it hasn't and there was a reasonable crowd in there (and in the toilets).
It wasn't a particularly thrilling evening and the most exciting part was the taxi ride home with a driver who was an admirer of the techniques of Fernando Alonso. It made me forget the particularly chilly night and he got me back to my warm apartment in record time.
