Tom's

I hadn't been to Tom's (Viamonte 638) http://www.buenosairestoms.com/ for a very long time and I was surprised to see how popular it was for a Sunday night at 11:30 pm; there must have been 80 guys in there. Since I was last in the place it has been expanded with a new bar area added to provide a space for relaxation away from the cruising areas. Although the entry charge is $10 (drink not included) the price of a beer is just $3. The place has a dark area with cells (used mostly on leather nights), a very dark labyrinth, and about 20 private cabins with video screen, glory holes and viewing windows between some cabins. What more encouragement do you need?

Angel's is open again

I just checked the City Government web site and I see that Angel's Disco (Viamonte 2168) http://www.discoangels.com.ar/ has regained its licence and re-opened last night (Thursday 24th March).

Palacio

There are now 38 dance clubs with licences but only Palacio and Glam for our family. From the inspection report for Angels I deduce it failed. Still no sign of Amerika.

Last night I went to a dance club for the first time since the tragedy in the city three months ago. There haven't been too many changes at Palacio (Alsina 940) apart from the entrance charge going up to $15 (drink not included). My gin and tonic cost just $7 but I could scarcely recognize the gin. We arrived rather early but by 11:00 p.m. it had filled up. There are two projection screens at either end of the dance area and early in the evening when the place was 10% full there were regular slides with dire warnings of what to do in the event of an emergency and a pictorial of routes to the emergency exit. By 11:00 p.m. when the place was 90% full these had been completely replaced by the more usual publicity. This boliche (local word for disco) should definitely be near the top of a gay tourists list of places to go (Fridays from 1 a.m., Sundays from 9 p.m.). The place itself is an impressive sight being a former industrial building (I would love to know for what) with the roof being at least 25m above the dance floor. More to the point, there is an incredible concentration of really good-looking guys.

My disco tolerance time is about two hours (signs of advancing years, I'm afraid) so just after midnight self and bf took off to to Water Club (Uriburu 1018), and joined the crowd in the toilets for an hour or so of fun.

Ian Anderson concert in BA

I have a spare ticket for the concert on Friday 8th April at 10:00 pm. (See my earlier posting on March 8th.) The cost of the ticket is $70 (that's Pesos). The seat is on the front row of the balcony. Please contact me if you would like the ticket.

Eternity Club

Last night my bf and I checked out the (relatively) new Eternity Club (Bartolome Mitre 3514). Well, ..... it's a room with a lot of space, a long bar, some basic tables and chairs, a fountain, two fish tanks, some TV screens, rudimentary decoration, basic lighting (and no dark room). We arrived at 12:20 am and when we left around 1:15 am there were maybe 20 people in there (however, it was Thursday night, it was raining and the bar is not in popular area). The advertised showing of Queer as Folk was up on the TV screens but since the sound was turned off and replaced by disco music there wasn't much point. The advertised stripper hadn't shown up by the time we left either. This club originally had a dance licence but since the December tragedy has been operating solely as a pub. Without the dance licence there doesn't seem much point for it's existence, except ..... I was told that the gay nudist parties on Sunday evenings from 8 pm are quite popular with normally between 30 and 50 customers. A return visit one Sunday is definitely called for. If you are thinking of going check the website first http://www.bafevernight.com.ar/

From there we went to Water Club (Uriburu 1018), and although there were only about 25 customers in there, most of them were in the extensive toilets or dark area, and all were there for some fun and adventure. Since they don't serve any decent beer we decided to join them and were busy for an hour or more.

Wonders never cease!

It was reported today in both La Nacion and Clarin that a judge in a court in La Plata (Buenos Aires Province) has ruled that a man whose homosexual partner died in January 2003 after they had been living together for eleven years can apply for a widowers pension. A story to follow!

At Last!

You read it here first!
Glam (Cabrera 3046) and Big One - Palacio (Alsina 934) have now been granted licences and should be open for business this weekend. Also Angel's (Viamonte 2168) was inspected yesterday so that should also open its' doors again very soon. Amerika was inspected way back on 22nd February but no report has been published. (There is strong local neighbourhood opposition to this re-opening.)

Still Waiting

According to the web site of the BsAs City Government eleven discos have re-opened for business but none of these is gay. I see that Amerika, Glam and Palacio (Big One) have been inspected, inspection reports for the last two can be downloaded, and these last two have been scheduled for re-inspection.
After 21 years Contramano has closed for good but their web site declares that they intend to re-open in another location. Nothing is known at all about Angel's disco.
No other news this week as your blogger had a straight Saturday night and went to the cine followed by 10-pin bowling.
