Private Parties in Buenos Aires

I had heard about the private parties some time ago but only recently was able to get an invitation. They are organised by a group called GRUPO LOS FIESTEROS and there are three different parties, each one held approximately once per month. One is for men under-35 who are reasonably in shape, another is for men of all ages of any shape and size, and the last is for both sexes (and in-between too) of all ages. You can read about the parties, study the rules, and see the calender of events at this web-site http://www.grupolosfiesteros.com/ There are pages in English if you click on the right flag. If you want to participate you have to register and provide an email address and certain personal details, then wait to receive the notice of the next party in your e-mail inbox.

I went to my first party last weekend and it was everything I expected it to be. It was held in a pleasant private club in Almagro district and there were between 50 and 60 participants of whom about 80% were between 25 and 40. People arrive from 7:30 pm and by 9:00 pm the party is in full swing. The fun was starting to die down about 10:30 pm which was when I left. The only word of description I need give is "uninhibited".

Bricklayer by day, transvestite by night.

Alcides Dante Waldemar Saravia (22) worked as a bricklayer with a construction company in the city of Rosario, Province of Santa Fe, Argentina. By night the same person is called Silvina and works as a transvestite prostitute on the streets of the city.

He has made a complaint of discrimination to the Civil Rights department of the city government of Rosario after being transferred to other work laying pavements in another part of the city.

Argentina to repeal gay military ban

PinkNews.co.uk writer

The government of Argentina has announced plans to repeal its ban on gay military personnel, according to recent news reports, making it the second country in South America, following Colombia, to prohibit discrimination in its armed forces.

Argentina's government intends to modernise its code of military justice which, among other changes, will no longer prohibit same-sex relationships among personnel in its armed forces.

"The ban was nonsense," said Colonel Judge Advocate Manual Lozano, "It's a matter of people's private lives."

According to C Dixon Osburn, executive director of Servicemembers Legal Defence Network, Argentina's move toward non-discrimination makes the United States increasingly isolated in its prohibition on gays in the military.

"From Israel to South Africa to Argentina, countries are recognising that banning qualified service members only hurts their readiness" said Mr Osburn.

"Eva Peron once observed that 'shadows cannot see themselves in the mirror of the sun.' Today, in her country, gay patriots are emerging from the shadows and being recognised for their dedication and service," he added.

Argentina joins a growing list of at least 25 nations that no longer exclude openly gay service personnel. American military allies, including Great Britain, Canada and Australia, have lifted their bans on open service.

Membership in the European Union requires nations to abolish any prohibitions on service by gays. Openly gay personnel from allied nations are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, alongside American troops.

What's happening in Gay Buenos Aires

Here are a few snippets of what is happening on the Buenos Aires gay scene just now.

Amerika disco remains closed so the most popular gay disco on either Friday or Saturday night is The Sub on Ave. Córdoba 543 (basement). Warning: the entry price of $25 includes free drinks all night but I recommend you stick to beer. The locally-made hard liquor has some of the properties of industrial alcohol.

For a pre-disco dinner and humorous drag show the best place is Chueca restaurant and bar at Soler 3283 in Palermo.

Note added January 2007: Chueca has closed at the old address and will re-open soon at Honduras 5255, Palermo.

Tbe best sauna in the city is still A Full Spa at Viamonte 1770 although there is a new one called Energy Spa recently opened near Parque Centenario which looks good that I didn't check out yet.

Great cabaret show at Maipo Club

Last Sunday night my bf and I went to see a show and we came away after nearly two very enjoyable hours having been thoroughly entertained. The show is "2º Piso Ascensor - Casa de Citas" (Two Flights Up - House of Assignation) and it is on at the Maipo Club in the Teatro Maipo at Esmeralda 443.
The Maipo Club is indeed a night club and the show is an intimate cabaret provided by three top drag queens of Buenos Aires plus four very good-looking dancers (three male and one female). The show is fast-moving and never loses its good pace, the musical numbers, costumes, and dances are all top class, and the whole thing is thoroughly professional. My Spanish is not much better than conversational so I missed out on some of the dialogue but that didn't detract from my overall enjoyment.
The show is on from Tuesday to Sunday nights and the best seats are just $40 (US$13). I don't know of a better value show in BA; I recommend it and I doubt very much that anyone will be disappointed.
